ComPuter Help and Security for Everyone!
Hi! This site is to provide simple steps for people to securing their electronic devices. Throughout my IT career, I have been approached by family and friends to help "fix an easy computer problem". This site is based on those requests. The issues seen on the site are true. The names have been changed to protect the innocent. If there is a topic you would like to see covered, send just send me an email or message me on twitter.
So what does every person who uses an electronic device need to know in order to protect themselves? Here are some areas that I will cover:
Malware: Malware, or malicious software, is a common security issue for home users. Malware can infect your computer through email attachments, downloads, or by exploiting vulnerabilities in your operating system or software.
Phishing: Phishing is a type of cyber attack where scammers attempt to trick you into giving them sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords, or credit card details. This can be done through email, social media, or other online platforms.
Weak passwords: Weak passwords are a common security issue for home users. If your password is easy to guess or reuse across multiple accounts, it can be easily cracked by hackers.
Unsecured networks: Unsecured networks, such as public Wi-Fi networks, can be vulnerable to attacks from hackers. If you use an unsecured network to access sensitive information, such as your online banking account, your personal information may be at risk.
Outdated software: Outdated software can be a security risk, as it may contain vulnerabilities that can be exploited by hackers. It's important to keep your operating system, web browser, and other software up to date with the latest security patches and updates.
Social engineering: Social engineering is a type of cyber attack where scammers try to manipulate you into divulging sensitive information or performing an action that is not in your best interest. This can be done through phone calls, emails, or social media messages. It's important to be wary of unsolicited requests for information or actions that seem suspicious.
I personally know some one who has been affected by each of these areas. My goal is to help you protect yourself!
